H. pylori is typically not shown on our 16S gut microbiome test results for a few reasons:
- Stomach vs. Gut Microbiome: Our 16S rRNA test is designed to analyze the gut microbiome, specifically focusing on the bacteria present in the intestines. H. pylori primarily resides in the stomach, which is outside the scope of our test.
- Detection Limitations: Even if H. pylori is present, it may be in very low abundance in the gut, making it less likely to be detected or to appear significantly in the results.
- Primer Specificity: Our test uses primers that are optimized for detecting a broad range of gut bacteria. These primers may not be ideal for identifying H. pylori, which requires more specialized testing methods.
For accurate detection of H. pylori, we recommend specific diagnostic tests such as a stool antigen test. There's some affordable options on Amazon but we are not sure how reliable those are.
